The Calling of the First Disciples

¹⁴After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. ¹⁵"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

¹⁶As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." ¹⁸At once they left their nets and followed him.

¹⁹When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. ²⁰Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit

²¹They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. ²²The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. ²³Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, ²⁴"What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

²⁵"Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!" ²⁶The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

²⁷The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him." ²⁸News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.

Jesus Heals Many

²⁹As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. ³⁰Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. ³¹So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

³²That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. ³³The whole town gathered at the door, ³⁴and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place

³⁵Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. ³⁶Simon and his companions went to look for him, ³⁷and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"

³⁸Jesus replied, "Let us go some where else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." ³⁹So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

A Man With Leprosy

⁴⁰A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean."

⁴¹Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" ⁴²Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.

⁴³Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: ⁴⁴"See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." ⁴⁵Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

مرقس ١: ١۴- ۴۵

آغاز خدمت عیسی در جلیل

۱۴عیسی پس از گرفتار شدنِ یحیی به جلیل رفت. او بشارت خدا را اعلام می‌کرد۱۵و می‌گفت: «زمان به‌کمال رسیده و پادشاهی خدا نزدیک شده است. توبه کنید و به این بشارت ایمان آورید.»

نخستین شاگردان عیسی

لوقا ۵:‏۲-۱۱؛ یوحنا ۱:‏۳۵-۴۲

۱۶چون عیسی از کنارۀ دریای جلیل می‌گذشت، شَمعون و برادرش آندریاس را دید که تور به دریا می‌افکندند، زیرا ماهیگیر بودند.۱۷به آنان گفت: «از پی من آیید که شما را صیاد مردمان خواهم ساخت.»۱۸آنها بی‌درنگ تورهای خود را وانهادند و از پی او روانه شدند.۱۹چون کمی پیشتر رفت، یعقوب پسر زِبِدی و برادرش یوحنا را دید که در قایقی تورهای خود را آماده می‌کردند.۲۰بی‌درنگ ایشان را فراخواند. پس آنان پدر خود زِبِدی را با کارگران در قایق ترک گفتند و از پی او روانه شدند.

شفای مرد دیوزده

مَرقُس ۱:‏۲۱-۲۸ - لوقا ۴:‏۳۱-۳۷

۲۱آنها به کَفَرناحوم رفتند. چون روز شَبّات فرارسید، عیسی بی‌درنگ به کنیسه رفت و به تعلیم دادن پرداخت.۲۲مردم از تعلیم او در شگفت شدند، زیرا با اقتدار تعلیم می‌داد، نه همچون علمای دین.۲۳در آن هنگام، در کنیسۀ آنها مردی بود که روح پلید داشت. او فریاد برآورد:۲۴«ای عیسای ناصری، تو را با ما چه کار است؟ آیا آمده‌ای نابودمان کنی؟ می‌دانم کیستی! تو آن قدّوسِ خدایی!»۲۵عیسی او را نهیب زد و گفت: «خاموش باش و از او بیرون بیا!»۲۶آنگاه روح پلید آن مرد را سخت تکان داد و نعره‌زنان از او بیرون آمد.۲۷مردم همه چنان شگفتزده شده بودند که از یکدیگر می‌پرسیدند: «این چیست؟ تعلیمی جدید و با اقتدار! او حتی به ارواح پلید نیز فرمان می‌دهد و آنها اطاعتش می‌کنند.»۲۸پس دیری نپایید که آوازۀ او در سرتاسر سرزمین جلیل پیچید.

شفای مادرزن پِطرُس و بسیاری دیگر

۲۹چون عیسی کنیسه را ترک گفت، بی‌درنگ بهاتفاق یعقوب و یوحنا به خانۀ شَمعون و آندریاس رفت.۳۰مادرزن شَمعون تب داشت و در بستر بود. آنها بی‌درنگ عیسی را از حال وی آگاه ساختند.۳۱پس عیسی به بالین او رفت و دستش را گرفت و کمک کرد تا برخیزد. تب او قطع شد و مشغول پذیرایی از آنها گشت.

۳۲شامگاهان، پس از غروب آفتاب، همۀ بیماران و دیوزدگان را نزد عیسی آوردند.۳۳مردمان شهر همگی در برابر دَر گرد آمده بودند!۳۴عیسی بسیاری را که به بیماریهای گوناگون دچار بودند، شفا داد و نیز دیوهای بسیاری را بیرون راند، امّا نگذاشت دیوها سخنی بگویند، زیرا او را می‌شناختند.

دعای عیسی در خلوت

مَرقُس ۱:‏۳۵-۳۸ - لوقا ۴:‏۴۲ و ۴۳

۳۵بامدادان که هوا هنوز تاریک بود، عیسی برخاست و خانه را ترک کرده، به خلوتگاهی رفت و در آنجا به دعا مشغول شد.۳۶شَمعون و همراهانش به جستجوی او پرداختند.۳۷چون او را یافتند، به وی گفتند: «همه در جستجوی تو هستند!»۳۸عیسی ایشان را گفت: «بیایید به آبادیهای مجاور برویم تا در آنجا نیز موعظه کنم، زیرا برای همین آمده‌ام.»۳۹پس روانه شده، در سراسر جلیل در کنیسه‌های ایشان موعظه می‌کرد و دیوها را بیرون می‌راند.

شفای مرد جذامی

مَرقُس ۱:‏۴۰-۴۴ - مَتّی ۸:‏۲-۴؛ لوقا ۵:‏۱۲-۱۴

۴۰مردی جذامی نزد عیسی آمده، زانو زد و لابهکنان گفت: «اگر بخواهی، می‌توانی پاکم سازی.»۴۱عیسی با شفقت دست خود را دراز کرده، آن مرد را لمس نمود و گفت: «می‌خواهم، پاک شو!»۴۲در‌دم، جذامْ ترکش گفت و او پاک شد.۴۳عیسی بی‌درنگ او را مرخص کرد و با تأکید بسیار۴۴به وی فرمود: «آگاه باش که در این‌باره به کسی چیزی نگویی؛ بلکه برو و خود را به کاهن بنما و برای تطهیر خود، قربانیهایی را که موسی امر کرده است، تقدیم کن تا برای آنها گواهی باشد.»۴۵امّا آن مرد چون بیرون رفت، آزادانه در این‌باره سخن گفت و خبر آن را پخش کرد. از این‌رو عیسی دیگر نتوانست آشکارا به شهر درآید، بلکه در جاهای دورافتادهِ بیرون از شهر می‌ماند. با اینحال، مردم از همه‌جا نزد او می‌آمدند.
